See you all on the flip side

Kyan and I are getting ready to fly to Michigan and the computer's being dismantled- no idea when we'll be up and running again. Wanted to leave some pictures before we left. Moving out to California while single and "footloose and fancy free" was an adventure, something I decided on a whim. Moving away from what has become our home with a family in tow is heartbreak. I know that this is the right decision for our little nuclear family: Kyan will know what grass looks like, his school won't be barred in, we'll be able to afford a house. But we've developed an extended family of "familyless" people out here. Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, all were spent in the company of people who really were our family. It breaks my heart to see how sad it makes people for us to take Kyan away. It breaks my heart that visits will have to be scheduled months in advance instead of minutes. It breaks my heart to say goodbye.

First Swim

So the bathing suit is supposed to be for 14+ pounds, but we made do. He wasn't sure what to think, but my water baby quickly caught on. (Am I the only parent who's made the discovery that babies float? Hold the head and he floats better than I do. Happy baby.) And since the apt people don't turn the hot tob temp up too high, when we got cold in the pool we played in the hottub.

Two Months Old*

Kyan, my beautiful baby, you are two months old. I can't believe how much you've changed! You've grown so much- yesterday the doctor said you were 10 lbs, 15oz. Guess I don't have to worry that you're starving! You're starting to grow out of some of your newborn clothes. You're holding your head up so well, and starting to focus. You love to look at your daddy when he comes home from work to play with you. You're also starting to like bright lights and shiny things. You'll stare for hours at the sun coming thru the blinds. You've discovered your hands, although you don't seem to know that you control them- but mmm, are they yummy! Your daddy caught you sucking your thumb and said it was the cutest thing in the world. You're smiling more- when we hold you as you drift off to sleep, you almost always smile your little half Elvis smile. You've also discovered your tongue. You stick it out like a snake tasting the air. You also purse your lips and furrow your brow when you're thinking. You're tracking already- you'll follow our hands or faces when we move out of your sight.

You've also figured out how to cry. I guess the first months of cute quiet crying is over- exercising your lungs happens quite frequently now! You refuse to sleep in your own bed, but you're getting very good at sleeping in ours. Which is okay, cause we get to snuggle you all night long. And Mommy gets to feed you without getting up- or waking up. Right now isn't the easiest time to be a Mommy or Daddy, or baby, with the moving and all- but you are our perfect baby. We love you!!!

Poker Night at the Symonds'!

Had a poker night last night with Chris, Cindy, Adam, Hillary, Mike and Sabrina. What a handful of couples. Most of the time hanging out with them since we've met, Jimmy and I (and off and on Cindy and Chris) were the only ones with significant others. All the sudden, we're all paired off- and Jimmy and I aren't even the only married ones! Well, we had a yummy dinner and I didn't even lose at poker.

We're really going to miss those guys.

Crunch Time

This is easily the most overwhelming move I've ever dealt with. How can I pack during the day when it seems that every 15 minutes Kyan needs to be fed or changed? Plus, we're trying to see as many people as possible before we go. That's sad. But regardless, we have a beautiful baby and all the harder work is so worth it!!
